I can’t say I enjoyed the AFL 150th Tribute match on Saturday night. Champion players, silky skills but it lacked the intensity of the old classic state of origin matches against the big V.
I used to love those games at Subiaco Oval on Tuesday afternoon.
Yep that’s right, Tuesday afternoon – what were they thinking! Bellowing for the blood of Victorians, screaming for the WA boys, especially those who had had their skills enhanced by playing in the VFL.
Maybe we live in a different era. An era where the tribal nature of interstate rivalries don’t matter as much. You certainly don’t hear as much talk about the Sydney/Melbourne comparisons these days. And come to think of it, I certainly feel more Australian than West Australian.
The world has become a smaller place. Australians travel more.
We’re bigger thinkers.
More nationalistic. Less state oriented.
A good thing? What do you think?
