Democracy is way too precious to be left up to the choice of the people. We must exercise the democratic right to vote.
Never a right – always a privilege. Democracy will never last if left to the will/choice of the people. It was procured and has been sustained by enormous cost and sacrifice, and it will only be maintained by a similarly inspired vigilance. Democracy does not mean that 51% makes a thing right. If that were the case then democracy would stand as a value alone, but it doesn’t and was never meant to be a stand-alone virtue.
It has always assumed more than it has stated (or is currently stated).
It has foundations based on human respect, a morality, convenient to the masses and inconvenient to the individual. Democracy and morality are entwined in such a manner, so that they’ll rise and fall in each other’s embrace. Expecting democracy to prosper tethered to a declining morality is like anticipating a foetal child to develop without an umbilical cord.
Next time an election is called, local, state or federal be thankful you have to vote.
